The sludge from the bottom of the Black Sea, rich in decaying organic matter, could represent a new source of energy. The company holding an exploration license in the Black Sea mud, Marine Resources Exploration International-Marexin, is studying the properties of this type of mud.So far, the mud was considered a resource impossible to exploit because of its location in deep waters.
"We believe that the mud can be a form of alternative energy.Until we finish all the research and exploitation we can not assess the commercial feasibility or the commercial significance of the product. For now, our goal is to determine to what extent exist the mud resources,"said Peter Hamilton, the Executive Director of Marexin"
He added that if the project succeeds, it will bring a new energy source in Romania.
However, there is a possibility of not being found sufficient quantities of mud for a commercial development.
