Commandments of blogging: how to get TH!NK to a more diverse and larger audience

Posted on November 19, 2010 at 17:00 3 Comments

I don't have a magical formula but I did manage to talk about how to blog for five minutes. Click to listen.

Listen!

  1. Help fix the tech
  2. Research, link to sources, make it look pro
  3. Ask questions, make readers think, discuss
  4. TW!T TW!T TW!T

How to blog about things nobody wants to read

Posted on September 25, 2010 at 21:00 0 Comments

People read to have their prejudices confirmed. And they don't trust some unknown blogger. If you are smart and want to explain yourself in the blogosphere what do you do?

As you may or may not be aware I have spent a good deal of my spare time this past year blogging about COP15 and the UN MDGs for the European…

Bring back the tags, please

Posted on March 25, 2010 at 8:27 3 Comments

Just wrote my first post and desperately looked for where to fill in the tags.

I have to admit I suspect EJC just removed the option. I can understand that because in TH!NK2 many bloggers didn't figure out how to add them. Although it's very easy!

If it is the case I will have to say I strongly disagree with this decision. Tags are awesome. You can link to a tag and get a list… Continue

Let's make TH!NK a success

Posted on November 2, 2009 at 17:30 14 Comments

Below I empty my head of blogosphere ninja tricks to help get attention. I suggest we all consider using these "tricks". And I'd like you to add your own.

1. Keep meta stuff in the community section

Like this post. This post does not belong in the climatechange. subdomain. If it was there it would be pure noise to a visitor. It would stain the blog project.

2. Use dirty tricks like Lucy Setian

Sorry Lucy. But putting 'sex' and 'porn' or ' in every… Continue

Benno I have nothing personal in this and I guess neither do you. That I do not agree with you regarding this platform being unattractive etc.is no animosity but a point of disagreement. I hope with can disagree without beingdisagreeable.
I accept that I 'flashed' a bit and I am sorry for that. I am human and hope you will accept my aplogy. I am sending you an invitation to add me as a friend. I will be glad if you accept it.

Now it is getting seriously irritating Benno. Have you missed my last reply to you? It contained a question for you. This is not CNN.com by the farthest stretch of imagination and the concept of 'ugly' is very subjective. I had not been arguing with anybody and will CERTAINLY not argue with you about this anymore.

If I accept your rationale for argument's sake, isn't that applicable to Anne Aution, head of Thinkers Jury too? My particular post is a reply to her post. If I want to write an article about the role of the media, why that has to be to the thinkers talking to each other and not to the world, as you say? I do not think I am doing any harm to the project - I certainly have not agrred to reserve my comments about how the project is faring at any point of time or to anybody.

Thanks but I do not share your belief that I should delete my post from THINK4. The contents of my posts known and consequent upon my refusal to remove it from Think4, you are welcome to ask any question here or anywhere.
When you say 'clarify' (for point 2) I take it that you do not mean semantically as my opinion is quite clearly expressed. Mainstream media and press did little to support Climate Change since last millenium. They remained neutral for both Claimers and Deniers reporting both with equal weightage, while fact remains Climate Change is hugely researched, evidenced and peer reviewed scientific truth. Some journalists also share this opinion..

Totally agree with you on Buzz.
From my experience, newsvine - is the top choice for science related articles (the kind of articles you write, documented with plenty scientifically references) but being a top user there, you know this better than me.

I also used de.li.cious for a while and it made me a good impression.
As for the rest I tested, well, to put it straight, they suck. :)

hey, Benno, I've just seen your post here... the one with making Th!nk a success and I'm only sorry I can't leave a comment there, too.

Some of your social bookmarking suggestions are great, some others are not fantastic - digg's no longer what it used to be a couple of years ago. It's filled with all kind of ring circles and crap that make voting really ... unfair, let's say.

The same with the rest of your points, I partly agree with you, but it would be fair to leave comments open and allow others to speak up, too, as, in the end, Th!nk's success depends on all of the 90 bloggers in the competition.

Cheers!
