The Master studies in Human Ecology I have completed in Belgium on September 2008 were aimed at capacity building for sustainable development, the majority of courses that have studied being organized around this topic. The dissertation thesis - Education for Sustainable Development: a comparative study of situations from Belgium, Ghana, Romania - allowed me to undertake a research visit in Ghana where I had a first hand experience with what is conventionally called ‘the third world’.
I had the opportunity to travel a lot during the past years, to broaden my perspectives on the world, to deepen my knowledge on North – South cooperation and to understand the interdependency that characterises our world. On October 2008 I returned in my home town in Romania, Iasi, where I set up the base for a local NGO that was founded in February 2009. In less than one year it became a most vibrant one, addressing local sustainable development dimensions. Beside several projects dealing with environmental protection, on responsible consumption and fair-trade issues, I developed an online education platform on our NGO webpage – www.maibine.org with several articles on how to live an economically ethical, socially fair and ecologically sound life.
Among the three pillars of sustainable development – society, environment and economy- the last one needs to be reversed without delay, and, because this is where research for alternatives is most needed, I decided to register for a PhD in De-Growth Economics, in September 2009.
